“To Love Somebody” – Cliff Richard and Barry Gibb Sing at the Royal Family’s Golden Evening at Windsor
Windsor, England – The evening of July 9, 2025. No cameras. No flashbulbs. Just the quiet chirping of cicadas and the soft yellow light covering the treetops in the private gardens of Windsor Castle. There, in the heart of ancient England, two musical icons – Cliff Richard and Barry Gibb – sang together at an emotional private party hosted by the Royal Family.
The event was not part of the official schedule, nor was it announced to the public. With only 200 carefully selected guests – including the presence of Princess Kate and Prince William – the evening became a rare nostalgic moment, where time seemed to stop to make room for the sounds that once nurtured the souls of a generation.
There was no big stage. The two veteran artists stood on a small wooden platform, in the middle of a splendid garden decorated with lavender, candles and twinkling lights. Barry Gibb, his silver hair sparkling in the moonlight, strummed his guitar and sang the first lines of “To Love Somebody” – the immortal love song of the Bee Gees. Beside him, Cliff Richard – still maintaining his unchanging elegance – sang along to each melody as if he was sending a message deeper than the lyrics.
Princess Kate, in a light turquoise evening gown, sat quietly in the front row, her eyes sparkling. Beside her, Prince William gently squeezed his wife’s hand – his silent gaze could not hide his emotion.
To outsiders, it might have been just a nostalgic duet. But to those present, it was a gentle farewell to a bygone era of British music – where love songs not only resounded on the radio, but were also associated with the nostalgia, love and youth of millions of people.
No media. No speeches. Just music – and two people carrying memories of the era, standing side by side, singing softly again… as if for the last time.
