Elton John singing Your Song to Princess Kate Middleton and Prince William
The future king appeared to reminisce about his nuptials to Princess Kate Middleton at the event when he heard Elton John perform Your Song, as he was seen singing along to the track.
It was the song he shared his first dance with his wife at their wedding, in April 2011.
The then Duke of Cambridge sat with Kate and their three children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte at the Platinum Party at Buckingham Palace. At one point, a projection of the musician playing his hit track was cast on the front of Buckingham Palace.
The song plays a special place in his heart as it was the couple’s first dance choice, and was performed by Ellie Goulding on their big day.
The singer, who was 75 years old at the time, was unable to perform live due to his tour.
But fans saw William sing along to the words ‘how wonderful life is, when you’re in the world’.

Sir Elton almost sang it in memory of Princess Diana
Not only does it cause a poignant memory for Princess Kate Middleton and William’s wedding, Elton John singing Your Song was also connected to his mother. The star had originally planned to sing it during Princess Diana‘s funeral in 1997, but instead opted for Candle in the Wind.
The musician also went on to perform it in tribute of the former Princess of Wales. This included the Concert for Diana in 2007.
The event was organised by William and his brother Prince Harry to mark the 10th anniversary of their mother’s death. The brothers wanted to celebrate her life.
